(Manchester's beautiful at night!)
After about the first two miles, I could feel my legs loosening up from the two races on New Year's Day. The cold temperatures made for a comfortable run without worrying about overheating. As the time ticked away, I was only feeling better and better.
As I was approaching 7 miles, I knew I was about 1 mile away from my destination and had to decide whether to call it a night or push for extra mileage. It is not too often when I feel this good running (I was going an easy 10 min/mile) so I decided to go the extra mile(s).
At this point in my run, I was making my way from Bodwell Road onto Mammouth Road and decided I would make a detour onto Mooresville Road and head towards Memorial High, Southside Middle, and Jewette Elementary Schools. This should add an extra 2 miles bringing my total to 10 miles for the night.
At this point, I was starting to feel the legs tire but decided I would end my run with a 3 mile lap around the Derryfield Country Club which would end at my house bringing my total for the night to about 13 miles. But lets be honest, NO ONE runs 13 miles without tacking on the extra 0.1 mile to run the half marathon. So that's what I did.
Of course, I did not tell my mom I was going to do a LONG run so the moment I walk in the door, I can hear her on the phone with my aunt and tell her "I think he's home. Cullen?!" I reply "Yup!" and you could hear the sigh of relief follow. I guess you never get too old or too experienced in anything for your Mom to stop worrying about you. As annoying as it is, I do appreciate it and have just got used to it.
It was a good night, got some good miles in, and enjoyed a good scenic run! Anyone looking to run a TOUGH Half-Marathon in Manchester, try this one on for size!
(Good luck!)
